The International Telecoms Risk Forum (ITRF)
The International Telecoms Risk Forum (ITRF) is the premier Risk Forum for the global telecommunications industry.
The objectives of the forum are to:
- Share customer experiences and draw on each others’ knowledge
- Develop and enhance best and new practice in credit and risk management
- Improve skill levels
- Provide access to a network of like-minded professionals and relevant industry experts.
It’s different because…
The International Telecoms Risk Forum is not an ad-hoc event with business development aims. But a genuine and lasting community of peers with common interests and goals.
How the forum operates
There are 4 International Telecoms Risk Forum meetings a year, each of two-day duration. Refreshments & lunch are provided. There is an optional group dinner on the evening of Day One.
Two International Telecoms Risk Forum meetings a year are held in the UK and two are held in Europe. The Forums Administrator assists with hotel bookings/ transfer arrangements if required.
Data Exchange Session
The International Telecoms Risk Forum meetings include a formal data exchange session to enable members to discuss their customer accounts. The session is run strictly in accordance with all legal requirements, including but not limited to relevant data protection and competition law.
Challenging & instructive agendas
The International Telecoms Risk Forum members have significant input into other sessions on the meeting agendas, to ensure that they are relevant and cover key areas of common interest. We source and invite knowledgeable subject experts in order to ensure that content is of the highest standard.
It’s different because…
Holding meetings at members’ premises is a way of demonstrating the trust that the International Telecoms Risk Forum members have, which is truly beneficial.
What to expect
In addition to the data exchange sessions, recent agendas have included the following topics:
Trading with companies in tricky locations
How to get paid from foreign states which are subject to relevant sanctions
Optimisation v Automation
Credit Managers from global blue-chip companies debate the pros and cons of automated procedures in risk & credit.
Middle East & Africa – Tapping Into a Emerging Market
A interactive session on the telecoms market in MENA – the players, the risks, the rewards.
Europe in Crisis
An update on the current picture, thoughts and views on the future and how this will effect trading in the telecoms industry.
Fraud Experiences & Prevention Techniques
A workshop sharing members’ experiences of successfully perpetrated frauds and how they could have been avoided.
What metrics add value for you? Exchanging ideas about which measurements are beneficial.
It’s different because…
The agenda sessions are drawn directly from suggestions made by members, and are not dictated by either FI Ltd or the corporate partners.
The International Telecoms Risk Forum membership is open to senior credit & risk professionals from international Tier One carriers and associated companies providing Voice, Data and Enterprise. The ITRF was formed in 2001 and to date has concentrated primarily on Wholesale Voice. Now the ITRF has changed to keep pace with the expanding industry and what our member companies are delivering. To voice we have added the following business segments:
Business and Enterprise
Internet of Things
Machine to Machine

It’s different because…
The membership is a genuine peer group – the forum is not open non accredited suppliers.
Virtual Access to the Forum
We understand that due to travel restrictions especially where you are not based in the same country or are a long way from the forum meeting venue it is not always possible to attend. As from 2019 we are offering virtual access to selective members and attendees.
Virtual Access works like a webinar. You will be able to hear the speaker and see the slides. Most importantly we will also be able to hear you so you can take part in the discussions/workshops.
If you have always wanted to attend a forum but have been unable to please join us virtually in 2019.
Membership is not just about meetings
We encourage members to draw on the network of peers provided by the International Telecoms Risk Forum between meetings. There is an established electronic communications channel for members to ask questions and stay in touch with each other.
The website has a secure members area, from where copies of all meeting presentations and workshop outputs can also be downloaded.
It’s different because…
The Forum partners have been carefully selected for the knowledge and services they can offer to the members and are not permitted to use the meetings as sales opportunities.

Mike Burnett, Risk Manager, Group Customer Billing, BT.
‘The International Telecoms Risk Forum (ITRF) is a great opportunity to exchange data and participate in relevant workshops in a professional and friendly environment as well as network and catch up socially with other members from Telecoms companies around the world.
I have been a member for 12 years, in my opinion this is a key part of Risk management and an invaluable part of my job.
It is been well supported and run by the sponsors including Forums International, who are always keen to listen to the members and follow up on feedback. Long may it last.’
Christine Knowles, Director of Credit and Risk, WaveCrest
‘Membership of the ITRF has been invaluable for me both as a source of information and also because of the network of relationships with other carriers that it has facilitated. On multiple occasions since I joined the International Telecoms Risk Forum these connections have proved to be important in problem resolution. The workshops which take place during the meetings have also given me valuable insights into various aspects of credit risk control.
I would highly recommend the forum.’
