Export Credit Forum (ECF)

Background

The Export Credit Forum (ECF) was developed by Forums International Ltd to provide a community for senior finance & credit professionals who have responsibility for trading across borders, whether that be in Europe, or globally.

International trade in a changing business environment presents specific challenges to UK businesses. As well as different business cultures, those transacting and operating in different jurisdictions need to understand diverse legal and banking rules and corporate structures. The Export Credit Forum equips members with the practical tools they need to meet those challenges. The focus is on providing an assured benefit to members – this is different to anything you have attended before.

The objectives of the forum are to:

  • Share experiences and draw on each other’s knowledge
  • Develop and enhance best and new practice in credit and risk management
  • Improve skill levels
  • Provide access to a network of like-minded professionals and relevant industry experts.

It’s different because…

The Export Credit Forum is not an ad-hoc event with business development aims, but a genuine and lasting community of peers with common interests and goals.

How the Forum Operates

Meeting Format

UK meetings start at 10.00 and run through to 16.00, with breaks. Refreshments & lunch are provided

Meeting Criteria

Meetings are currently being held at different venues.

Challenging & instructive agendas

The export Credit Forum members have significant input into meeting agendas, to ensure that sessions are relevant and cover key areas of common interest.

Interactive delivery

Sessions are delivered through workshops and discussions rather than lecture-style presentations.

We source and invite knowledgeable subject experts in order to ensure that content is of the highest standard.

It’s different because…

Meetings are eligible for the CICM’s CPD Scheme and UK meetings attract 5 points.

What to expect

Recent agendas have included the following:

Trading In…

This is a regular feature – in the last year we have covered emerging markets, France, Spain, Italy and the MENA area. These sessions are delivered by carefully sourced country experts.

The Information Suppliers’ Landscape

A leading data consultant compares and contrasts the quality of business information available in the market.

International Insolvency

A look at the insolvency laws and practices in different countries.

Optimisation v Automation

Credit Managers from global blue-chip companies debate the pros and cons of automated procedures in risk & credit.

KPI’s

What metrics add value for you? Exchanging ideas about which measurements are beneficial.

International Trade Security

A look at the methods of securitisation available, from letters of credit to guarantees – how do you ensure they will work?

It’s different because…

The agenda sessions are drawn directly from suggestions made by members, and are not dictated by either FI Ltd or the sponsors.

What our members say

I enjoyed the Export Credit Forum very much – it was good to stay in touch and meet the people that were there.

Daniela Boulton, Credit Analyst, Pentland Brands Ltd

A thoroughly enjoyable conference. Many thanks.

Jane Beesley, Regional Credit and Risk Manager UK, Ireland, Nordics and South Africa, Sun Chemical Ltd

The Export Credit Forum provides an opportunity for Credit Managers around Europe to get together in neutral surroundings to discuss the important issues that affect us all. As it is the members who drive the Agenda each Forum is unique and up to date,  never stale and formulaic. The days are busy for sure but there is still time found for items that help us become better and more effective managers in general as well as the specific issues facing our industry today.  I would recommend the ECF as an excellent platform for credit managers to both develop their skills and share their experiences with their peers.

Guy Thompson – Credit Risk Manager, EMEA & China, SunChemical Group

I have been a member of several forums that have been run by Laurie and Lynn for about sixteen years. At Dell we were members of the TCIG and the ECF. Nowadays at Hachette we are members of no less than four forums –  SAP User, CPF, ECF and SMF. We very much see the forums as the arena in which many advantages can be gained. Principally learning about changes and updates to specialist areas such as trade risk, compliance, fraud, legal changes etc. Also the networking is an important part of the membership and something that I have always seen as an important advantage. The other major gain is the opportunity to get more junior staff involved at meetings and to use the forums as part of their development.
